My First Pair of Toms

I have written about responsible consumerism in the past.  I have mentioned how much power we hold because of money.  We must really know where our money goes and what decisions are made by the companies we support.  This brings me to Toms.

Toms are eco-friendly shoes that are made by an awesome company! For every pair of Toms shoes purchased, the company gives a child in need a pair of shoes!  Wow!  It is buy one get one free!  You buy one and a child gets one free.  These are children who have no shoes at all.  I mean, we have multiple pairs of shoes to choose from.  Imagine not having any.  This is what Toms says about children with no shoes...
  • Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:

•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.
•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.
•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential

Are you convinced yet?  No, need more information.  Well let me tell you about the awesome shoes!
They have an organic cotton upper, canvas insole cover, EVA and rubber sole and are vegan friendly!
Here are my super comfortable fabulous new Toms!
